My personal favourite mode of travel these days being far more environmentally friendly than flying and offering a superior level of comfort which combined with high speed services and attractive fares make it an extremely viable option for travelling around the UK and into northern Europe. For further distances overnight sleeper services are available and you can still take your car on the train to the south of France should you desire. Now that the Eurostar has moved across to St Pancras the connections from Manchester are even better and with the high frequency of services a trip to Paris, including Disneyland, or Brussels is well able to compete with the airlines in terms of both cost and the overall journey time with less likelihood of delays, lost luggage and frayed tempers! Let the train take the strain!

Of course this page is not limited to UK and European rail travel as there will be links to famous trains like the Venice Simplon Orient Express, the Blue Train, the Rocky Mountaineer, The Ghan and the services of Amtrak in the USA and VIArail in Canada to name but a few.
